My Man Godfrey has got to be one of the best screwball comedy's of today. The next chance you have, take the time to enjoy the hysterical madcap antics of a wealthy well to do and eccentric family when they hire a down-and-out “forgotten man” as their butler. My Man Godfrey arouses laughter from deep within with it's brilliant performances by Carole Lombard and William Powell. The film as well was the first ever to receive Academy Award nominations in all four acting categories.
The story opens with a Fifth Avenue socialite Irene Bullock portrayed by Carole Lombard who steels "the forgotten man" out from under her sister in order to win a scavenger hunt. Incognito and unaware of his true identity Godfrey Park portrayed by William Powell is found residing in a dump by the East River pulling the wool over on the high society family. Irene hires Godfrey as a servant for her seemingly insane family, despite the animosity shown by her spoiled sister, Cornelia Portayed by Gail Patrick. Cornelia tries her best to get Godfrey fired. In the midstream of it all Irene falls for her new butler, Godfrey. But fate wills out as Godfrey turns the tables and teaches the frivolous Bullocks a lesson or two.
This is definitely a must watch if you are a true Classic Movie Lover.
